Brigham Young University. Athletic Advisory Council
In August 1956, the Athletics Council voted to change their name to the Athletic Advisory Council, in order to better represent their function. The council helped advise and direct the intercollegiate athletics program. The chairmen of this organization included Wayne B. Hales, Milton Hartvigsen and Clayne R. Jensen. In 1981 the council was abolished and replaced with the Athletics and Special Events Advisory Board.

Functions
The function of the Athletics Advisory Council was to advise and direct the intercollegiate athletics program at BYU. This included developing, discussing, and making recommendations on steps to improve and upgrade the administration of the athletic program, including scheduling, distribution of tickets, crowd control, public relations, recruiting, and other matters of administration; receiving, evaluating and making recommendations on suggestions from the public, faculty, alumni, students, and others interested in the athletic program; working to maintain BYU's standards and reputation of good sportsmanship; working to maintain the observance of high academic standards and high standards of personal behavior, as prescribed in the Code of Honor, by all participants in the athletic programs at BYU; promoting the amateur nature of athletics and the observance of all of the rules and regulations established by their conference and the NCAA; and encouraging and assisting in developing and financing the best possible athletic program on the broad and comprehensive basis within an approved budget.
Assets and Administrative Structure
The Athletics Advisory Council worked with the various deans who oversaw the athletics programs at BYU over the years and originally reported to the University President. By the time it was abolished the council reported to the Executive Vice President.
