The Academic Emphasis Committee was organized and headed by Dean of Students Wesley P. Lloyd (1959-1966). The membership of the committee consisted of various faculty members and student representatives. In 1965 the duties of this Committee were taken over by the ASBYU Academic Vice-President's office and in 1966 the Committee disbanded.

Functions
The Academic Emphasis Committee organized lectures from nationally acclaimed philosophers and authors as well as debates between liberal and conservative Latter-day Saints.
Assets and Administrative Structure
The Academic Emphasis Committee reported to and served under the Dean of Students. Later the Committee was taken over by the ASBYU Academic Vice-President.
