The BYU International Cinema was officially placed under the direction of the College of Humanities in 1990 and has been under its direction ever since. The program began in 1968 with Joseph Backer of the newly created German Department, who instituted what he called the International Film Festival. He directed the program until 1975 when Donald Marshall of the College of Humanities administered the program until he retired in 2000. Travis Anderson served as the director of the program from 2000 until 2006. Following his stepping down, Dennis Packard and Scott Miller directed the cinema and they were followed by Greg Stallings and Dennis Perry.
