BYU EMS was established in April 1997 under the direction of the Dean of Student Life. In 2006 it was merged into the BYU Police Department. Directors included Jerry Jensen and Russ Williams.

The BYU EMS is administered by a director. The office was under the direction of the university until 2006, when it was transferred to the supervision of the University Police chief.
