Brigham Young University. Dept. of Bacteriology
The Department of Bacteriology was established under the College of Applied Science in 1935. In 1954 it was moved to the College of Biological and Agricultural Sciences. In 1968 the department was renamed the Department of Microbiology. Department chairmen included Thomas L. Martin (1935-1949), Dean A. Anderson (1950), Jay V. Beck (1951-1954), Don H. Larsen (1955-1958), David M. Donaldson (1959-1960), Richard D. Sagers (1961-1965), and Don H. Larsen (1966-1968).

Functions
The department was responsible for teaching: general bacteriology, bacteriology laboratory, bacteriology of fermentation, physiology of bacteria, pathogenic bacteriology laboratory, soil microbiology lab, and algae and fungi of the soil. By 1954 the department was also teaching courses in: microbiology, sanitation and public health, food and dairy bacteriology, and diagnosis laboratory.

The department was administered by a department chair, under the direction of the college dean. The department was associated with the College of Art and Sciences (1937-1954) and the College of Biological and Agricultural Sciences (1954-1968).
