In 1980, the Statistical Laboratory's name changed to the Center for Statistical and Computing Research. As a Center, it was run by a director rather than a coordinator, but retained the functions of the Statistical Laboratory and remained a direct part of the Statistics Department. It was established in its current location, 223 TMCB, in 1981. Its directors included: Wayne Larson (1980-1981 or 1982), Gale Rex Bryce (1983-1984), Howard Campbell (1984-1986), H. Gill Hilton (1986-1995), and Leland J. Hendrix (1996-1997).
