The Harold B. Lee Library Special Collections Division was proposed in 1991 under University Librarian Sterling J. Albrecht (1980-2002), later Randy J. Olsen (2002-2009)and Julene Butler (2010-) became University Librarians. From 1991 the departments within the proposed Special Collections Division functioned as they had until 1997 when Scott Duvall, former Chair of the Special Collections and Manuscripts Department, was made the Assistant University Librarian for Special Collections (1997-).
