The Freshman Year Office was created in 2002 under the Office of Undergraduate Education. The office was headed by an Associate Dean and ultimately reported to the Dean of Undergraduate Education. During the tenure of the Freshman Year Office, the Dean was George S. Tate (2002-2006). Clark Webb ( - 2003) and R. Steven Turley (2003-2004) served as the Associate Deans over the office. In 2004, the name of the office was changed to the Office of First-Year Experience and R. Steven Turley continued to serve as the Associate Dean.
