Placed in Technical Services Division upon creation of that division in 1980. Order was formerly the Order Section, but it was promoted to a department in the new division. The Order Department merged with the Bibliographic Department in 1991 because of an increase in automation in these areas. It was chaired by Bill G. Slater (1980-1991).
