Brigham Young University. University Standards Committee

The University Standards Committee was created in 1956 to work with the student run Honor Council. While the Honor Council handled academic violations of the honor code, the University Standards Committee handled other violations, such as theft or moral problems. This committee served as a precursor to the University Standards office, which it later operated under. In 1957, due to its similar function, the Faculty Committee on Honor Council was combined with this organization. Its first chairman was Selby Clark and he was followed by Reed H. Bradford who served for seven years as its chairman. After Bradford, the known committee chairmen were Paul Felt, Robert J. Howell, Blaine R. Porter and Carl D. Jones, each of whom served for one year each. Over time the importance of the University Standards Committee diminished and by the time the Honor Code system was reorganized in 1992 the committee had ceased to operate.
