Brigham Young University. Dept. of Home Economics (1920-1922)

The Dept. of Home Economics was a part of the Church Teachers College until the college was split in 1920. The department was placed under the direction of the School of Arts and Sciences. In 1921 the department was transferred to the newly formed College of Arts and Sciences. In 1922 the department was split into three departments and placed in the College of Applied Science. The new departments were: Dept. of Foods and Nutrition, Dept. of Clothing and Textiles, and Dept. of Household Administration. Ethel Cutler was the chairman of the Dept. of Home Economics.

The Dept. of Home Economics includes classes of: foods; preparation of foods; advanced cookery; serving; dietetics; study of cotton textiles; study of wool and silk textiles; application of line and color; elementary dressmaking; art needlecraft; art needlework; Roman cutwork and Hedebo; colored embroidery; fine sewing; sheer waists, negligees, children's fine white dresses; summer dresses; advanced dressmaking; practical dressmaking; spring coats and dresses; shop work; and textiles.

The department was administered by a department chair, under the direction of a college dean. Between 1920 and 1921 the department was under the direction of the School of Arts and Sciences, and between 1921 and 1922 under the College of Arts and Sciences.
