Brigham Young University. Dept. of Art (1920-1973)

The Dept. of Art was a part of the Church Teachers College until the college was split in 1920. The department was placed under the direction of the School of Arts and Sciences. The department was transferred in 1921 when the School of Arts and Sciences was renamed the College of Arts and Sciences. The department was again transferred in 1925 to the newly established College of Fine Arts, which in 1964 was renamed the College of Fine Arts and Communications. Department chairs included Elbert H. Eastmond (1920-1936), Bent F. Larsen (1937-1954), J. Roman Andrus (1960-1961), Richard L. Gunn (1962-1965), Glen A. Turner (1966-1969), Floyd E. Breinholt (1970-1971), and W. Douglas Stout (1972-1973).

Functions

The Dept. of Art includes classes of free hand representation, pictorial landscape, illustration, water color painting, oil painting, studio work, design and study application, vocational crafts, illustrated lecture course, pageant production, architectural design, mechanic arts design, home planning and applied art, graphic representation, and decorative design.
