In 1940 the College of Applied Science combined the horticulture and landscape architecture departments into the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. Department chairmen included: Seth L. Shaw (1940-1941), George H. Smeath (1942), Charles Harris (1943), George H. Smeath (1944), Melbourne D. Wallace (1945-1947), Robert H. Daines (1948-1950), and Clarence D. Ashton (1951-1954).
