Brigham Young University. Care of Girls and Women's Activities Committee

The Care of Girls and Women's Activities Committee was created in 1914 to look after the needs of women students at BYU. Its chairwomen included Alice Louise Reynolds (1914-1924), Ethel Cutler Butt (1924-1925), Nettie Neff Smart (1925-1945), and Lillian C. Booth (1946). During World War I this committee oversaw the operation of a Red Cross chapter at BYU and sent care packages to military servicemen. In 1946, the name of this committee was changed to the Women's Affairs Committee.

Functions

The function of the Care of Girls and Women's Activities Committee was to look after the needs of women on campus. Along with sponsoring activities for women, this committee looked after women's facilities on campus and visited ill and indisposed female students.

Assets and Administrative Structure

Until 1922 this committee was chaired by the University's matron. After 1924 the Dean of Women took over that responsibility.
