The Athletics and Special Events Advisory Board was created in 1982. The board assumed many of the functions of the Athletic Advisory Council which had been abolished the year before. Stephen D. Nadauld served as its first chairman.

Functions

The Athletics and Special Events Advisory Board advised the administration on facility, program, and policy issues affecting both long and short-range planning of athletic events issues in such a way as to contribute to the success of these programs in a manner compatible with institutional objectives. They performed this task by providing for University monitoring of the athletic and special events programs through information sharing and feedback from members of the Board who were representing broad campus interests, advising the administration on special projects and program considerations affecting these areas and keeping the administration well informed through circulation of advisory board minutes and other communications.
